All about the Boy Band!

Ok, we have had a slight problem in the Peterson household lately. The problem was this; Owen had a little jealously going when it came to Emerie’s things. These things include, but are not limited to, headbands. You see, Emerie has a number of multi-colored headbands in her bathroom drawer, and Owen has to get in on the fashion action when I am doing her hair. Not being a super-big deal, I tended to disregard it, and often found it cute. From time to time I would find him wandering around the house with headbands on, he seemed to be developing an affinity for them :-) And who blames him, there’s nothing quite like the feel of a good headband.

I know that headbands are not strictly a girly thing, citing the reference my husband refers to, Lebron James. So today I went out and we got Owen some of his very own headbands, boy bands, if you will, and he couldn’t have looked any cuter!

I don’t know about you, but I see a resemblance!

Just an aside here…if you are a boy band fan, and remember New Kids On The Block, they will be performing 7AM EST / Friday April 4th on the Today Show. Should be interesting.

Little did I know that my freshly painted bedroom walls doubled as a chalk board. When I saw this toddler art that my son made this morning I let out a yelp like an injured dog. Then I realized that it was chalk and it could probably be cleaned pretty easily, so I took a quick pic. Luckily I was right, it was very easy to clean.

Owen is all boy and really giving us a run for our money. He is not the best sleeper so far. Lately he has been waking up in the night and when we go in his room he says, “Go! Milk!” with his arms outstretched. He wants us to take him in the kitchen and warm him up some milk, and most times we do, just because we know it’s five minutes to a usual guaranteed five more hours of sleep. This is not good, because we have created a monster. He was sleeping through the night and then here in the past few weeks he started waking again. The other kicker, to Stephan’s chagrin, is that he wants “Daddy”, not momma to get and give the milk. How do I rate? I guess it’s ok though, it’s usually only in the middle of the night that he specifically wants Daddy. I guess I will continue to humbly bow out and let him be the preferred parent at 2 am, and I am all torn up about it on the inside…

We are also dealing with a little bit of the aggressive nature that goes with boys. I never noticed Emerie being so rough. Owen likes to jump on Emerie, pull her hair, and roughhouse with her. She is a screamer so when he takes something that is hers, she gets in his face and screams a blood curdling scream, then he looks at her with disbelief and hauls off and whacks her in the face. This is quite a show, believe me, and most of the time I feel like a referee that drones on and on about “soft touches.”

So, if you have any words of wisdom, feel free to pass them on. I have to mention with all of the above challenging situations he really is a lovely child. He is a cuddle bug, something Emerie wasn’t at that age. He loves to kiss and hug and be read to. He is a sweet boy, but exactly that, he is all boy, but we love him and we’ll probably decide to keep him in the end:-)

Wow…

This guy blows me away. I have never been more enamored with an American Idol contestant in my life. He is the real deal. Watching tonight made me happy, I am so proud that he is a Missouri boy!

I also enjoyed the performance by Kristy Lee Cook. Everyone else just kind of faded away after watching David. You go boy, were pulling for ya back home!

Kids say

We were in the car today, headed to Red Robin for lunch. Mesha passed her learner’s permit test, so we were celebrating. Below is the dialogue:

M: I think I am going to have a chicken sandwich, doesn’t that sound good Emerie?
E: (With a wrinkled up nose) A chicken sandwich, that sounds yuuuccckkkkyy!
M: A chicken sandwich from Red Robin, that sounds good to me, don’t you think that sounds good Emerie?
E: You bet!

She is so funny lately. Her vocabulary has dramatically increased and we wonder where she comes up with all these expressions. Tonight in the middle of dinner she stood up in her chair and did a plie while singing the word, DELICIOUS! Later she was wandering around with Daddy’s shirt on. I said why are you wearing daddy’s shirt Emerie? She wrinkles up her nose and says, “I don’t know mom, it’s just soooooo cozy!” She’s a mess.

Vomiting, Easter, and Candy

Well I wonder if there is any one virus left in the greater Kansas City area that the Peterson Family has yet to receive? It seems as though we have had it all this winter. Stephan, Owen, and I are just finishing up the fever and stomach flu thing, Owen was up with daddy last night doing their thing and of course I was the resident nurse. Poor little Owen was pathetic, but he is doing better today. Fortunately Mesha, Emerie and I were able to pull off the 11 am service and have a great time worshiping.

I got a little nervous when about 1/3 of the way through the service Emerie climbs into my lap and says, “My stomach hurts.” Talk about par for the course, I had this image of Emerie vomiting into my purse right during the hallelujah course and me running out of the church with vomit everywhere. It was no comfort to me that we were sitting in the second row of the largest church in town. I said a few extra prayers and hoped we could make it through another 40 minutes. We did, thank you Jesus!

Easter dinner was green chili stew for those of us that ate. Daddy hid some eggs for the kids and made up their baskets while we were at church. Owen and Emerie had a blast finding eggs even if it was a simple game in living room. Mesha got her favorite, Lindt truffles, and the little ones spent the afternoon shoveling handfuls of jellybeans and m&m’s into their mouths. After nap we dyed eggs and had supper, then we finished off the night listening to Mesha read us a chapter of, “The Yearling.”
Happy Easter.

Tough titty said the kitty when the milk ran dry.

I say forget it… this guy thinks he deserves a second chance after trying to “hook up” with a 15 year old girl on the internet. He not only wants a second chance, he thinks he deserves to become Mayor!

THIS IS ABSURD!

Ok, a little commentary here. I read the article below and just really felt compelled to vent. We have made it to rock bottom in our society when our teachers continue to fail our children, both morally and ethically, on a daily basis. A few years back we started hearing that some teachers were having intimate relationships with their students. Today I read that two middle school teachers got into a fight in the hallway after “bumping” into each other. Now I ask you, just how ridiculous is that? Can we not count on teachers to be role-models anymore? Why would anyone want to become an educator if they didn’t have a passion for our youth, I can’t understand how this sort of thing happens. It really just makes me sick.As for these teachers, I think they should be fired on the spot and never allowed to return to the profession.

Thank God for Liberty schools, I love our teachers and the do a great job being leaders.

TEACHERS FIGHT IN SCHOOL HALLWAY!

Surprise!

Here’s a picture I took of Mesha tonight while she was doing dishes. I wanted to document her efforts for posterity. She’s always trying to sneak up on me and scare me, so tonight I turned the tables…I think I got her, what do you think?
